Caraqueña & nomad by nature, Maria has lived and worked in 9 cities in the last 20 years. Artist & organizer she merges creative expression, critical thought and self ♫ proposing participatory, collaborative/experimental experiences that incorporate performance video/sound.
Bilbao·Herrera earned her BA in Interior Design from the Art institute in Fort Lauderdale and her MA in Art Direction from Elisava Escola Superior de Disseny of Barcelona. Upon graduating, Maria attended the International Center of Photography in New York where she was awarded the Rita K Hillman award for excellence. Artist-in-residence at ZK/U in Berlin (2016), where she got deeply into philosophy from Flusser to Cage.
In addition to her own art practice, she is an educator in the field of the image creation, understanding and showcasing, and works as an adviser for creative people.
Her work is part of private collections in NY, Bogotá, Florence and Caracas.She received the Rita K Hillman Award of Excellence from the ICP in New York.
Cofounder of nodoCCS, an experimental platform for the arts and Creative Director of the Festival Video nodoCCS.
Maria had her first solo show, "Autopoiesis" (2017) at EspacioMAD gallery in Caracas. Her works are part of private collections in New York, Bogota, Madrid, Barcelona, Florence, San Francisco and Caracas.
She is currently recipient of a scholarship from the Center for Deep Listening.
She lives and works in between Caracas and Barcelona.
